Iceland
Iceland has been on my list of top places I wanted to travel for quite sometime now. My husband had already been, so we kept putting the trip to the bottom of our travel list. However, since it was my call to determine where we would travel to celebrate my 31st birthday, I took the opportunity to choose Iceland for our next adventure :) We arrived in Iceland on a Thursday morning and left on a Sunday morning. With only three days to explore we tried to pack as much in as possible. I wish I had at least one more day! Below is a brief summary of our Iceland travel itinerary.
DAY 1
We spent our first day exploring the capital city of Reykjavik. We stopped to take a few photos of Hallgrimskirkja and explore some nearby shops. Later that evening we visited the Blue Lagoon! After a few hours of soaking in the lagoon and drinking a couple of beers we head back for the night but not before grabbing an Icelandic hot dog from Bæjarins Beztu Pylsur.
DAY 2
This was by far our busiest day. We drove about 6 hours to Hofn and made several stops along the way. The drive was quite lovely with beautiful Icelandic horses and sheep crossing the roads. Below is a list of the places we visited:
Golden Circle
Thingvellir National Park
Gullfoss Waterfall
Geysir Hot Spring
Seljalandsfoss Waterfall (you can walk behind this waterfall)
Skogafoss Waterfall (my favorite!)
Solheimasandur Plane Wreck
Reynisfjara Beach (black sand beach)
DAY 3
Happy Birthday to me! We were exhausted from all of the stops and driving on the second day so we ended up having a late start. We made our way to Glacier Lagoon and Diamond Beach. Both of these stops were gorgeous. We had lunch near the lagoon from a food truck selling fish and chips, which was delicious. We wanted to drive north to see Godafoss Waterfall but it was about a 7 hour drive away and would have taken an additional 6 hours to make it back to the city for our flight the next morning. If only we had one more day! During our drive we made a few pit stops to take photos and would stop at random waterfalls we would see along the way. We were going to go on a hike to see another waterfall but ended up getting a flat tire :( We decided to call it a day with four hours left of driving ahead of us to reach the city.
All in all I had a fabulous time visiting this country. Iceland is unlike any other place I have ever visited! The island has waterfalls you can just walk up to and scenic views to die for. 10 out of 10!
